Food Effect: Sugar in the Cheerios Protein and the Corn Flakes

For breakfast we decided  eat Cheerios Protein one morning. I felt right away strange. The following day I tried Corn Flakes and the same thing happened but not as bad as the way I felt with the Cheerios Protein . I suspect is the sugars in the cereal.  Cheerios Protein  has 16 grams of sugar per serving. That is like 4 teaspoons of sugar! And the cornfalkes has 10 grams.

"According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are (7):
  • Men: 150 calories per day (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons).
  • Women: 100 calories per day (25 grams or 6 teaspoons)." (Authority Nutrition)
I wondered why I still fell strange after eating the cornflakes. Then I remember that milk has sugar. There are 11 grams of sugar per cup in the kind of milk I purchased. Assuming I used 2/3 of the amounts that would have been like 7 grams extra. So 17 grams of sugar certainly is a little too much for me in one shot when it comes to eating these kinds of cereals.
Funny thing is that when I ate organic Pumpkin Flax Plus Granola I didn't feel this way even though it also has 10 grams of sugar.

Update: 07-19-14 This is the only kind of Cheerios I can handle from General Mills. They barely have any sugar and when mixed in with milk I do just fine.
