These days many people have been catching the cold, the flu, the stomach flu, and the strep throat. It is happening to many people. There are a few things that can be done. When you hear people saying that they don't feel good that is when you start drinking vitamin C (We really like the Emergen -C sold at Wallmart. It comes in little packets full of vitamin C powder which you dilute in water). During the day, try to drink up to 5,000 mg or more of this powerful vitamin which fights disease in a natural way. Green tea is a nice one to drink when your throat is feeling sore. Add lemon and use honey instead of sugar. When sickness hits and you don't feel like eating much but can handle soft foods try eating potato broth. Peel a couple potatoes, add a little diced onion, and salt. This goes down really nice. If you feel brave enough you can add a sprinkle of paprika instead of pepper. And of course there is nothing like chicken broth. But if you don't have the energy to make homemade chicken soup try buying organic chicken broth. They sell it at Publix. Add some boneless chicken breast if you like and a couple poatoes if you have a little energy. If you don't feel you can make it to the store call somebody to have it delivered or if they like to help some more ask if they can prepare it this way at their house. This is the best option next to homemade chicken broth.
For strep thoat like symptoms buy echinecea extract glycerin drops. Make sure that they are alchohol free. We place a whole dropperfull under our tongue. This fights the bacteria that causes strep throat. You won't believe it but while others are going countless of times to the doctor for every little cold and strep throat symptoms one can save a trip to the doctor and a bunch of money as well just by taking glycerin echinecea on the onset of a sore throat. Apply a few drops directly onto throat or mix in some water or juice. Make sure to take the alcohol free kind.
Another great product is Nature's Ways Bio Certified Sambucus Immune Lozenges .
These lozenges have Elderberry, Echinecea, Zinc, and Vitamin C. My throat was in pain and I had to speak for several hours on the phone. I took one of these lozenges everytime I felt my throat feeling uncomfortable. These lozenges fight viruses. I alternated these lozenges during the day with Ricola lozenges. For the stomach flu you can take Charcoal tablets. It will help with diarrhea. During sickness you need to rest and drink a lot. If you are vacationing try taking these products. I noticed one of my kids got a fever and the throat was in pain. I gave her the vitamin C. And the Sambucus lozenges. She rested a lot. The sickness is only lasting 2-3 days. In the daytime she feels good. But towards the afternoon she would start feeling sick. If I was vacationing at Disney I would go places in the morning and go rest for the afternoon. Then I would play by ear after that. Being sick is not fun but be creative. Maybe there is the 1,000 pieces puzzle that you have been wanting to build but was needing the perfect time to do it. This would be a perfect time. You spent time together and built some memories.

If you or your children experience a fever under 103 fill the bathtub with water that is a tiny bit warmer than room temperature but not too hot ( too cold or too hot will only raise the fever and make fever worst) and take a bath. Test the water by feeling the water with your elbow. Make sure to have a towel ready when you come out of the bath. Have your clothes laid out before you take bath. You want to go right straight into bed after your bath and take a little rest. Have somebody bring you drinks and soft foods.
Always seek medical attention if fever goes above 103 and if a high fever hangs around for more than three days! Some people prefer to go doctor at 101 or 102 degrees. We have always manage high fevers succesfully so far. I do have to say that we do give the kids a fever reducer at bedtime to help us all sleep at night when fevers start reaching 101 degrees. We have used suppositories when needed. Find they work faster than oral medication. Only use one form or the other. Never use both at one time!
